Tasmania is rich in convict history. With the first convicts arriving as part of the settlement party in 1803 and the last transportees arriving in 1853. The Tasmanian Archives and Heritage Office holds records for approximately 76 000 convicts (some home grown included) but this does not give a full picture of the Tasmanian Convict.

Many a convict transported to other States also set foot on Tasmanian soil. In 1808 when Norfolk Island was evacuated many ex-convicts (First Fleet included) came to call Tasmania Home.
